What is a removable hurricane screen?
A removable hurricane screen is a mesh screen that covers a window, door or lanai opening only when you need it. It is manually deployed in the event of a storm, then taken down and stored once the storm passes. The EZMax screen we install is made of a polypropylene mesh.
The screen is lightweight, easily stored and simple to install. The system attaches directly to the structure without the need for tracks, and all attachment points are permanently affixed to the screen. It gives Category Five rated protection.
Advanced Hurricane Protection is a family-owned company based in Stuart. We have served the Treasure Coast for over 20 years, and we fit EZMax screens alongside the shutters, screens, windows and doors we install.
How do EZMax screens attach to the house?
EZMax screens attach directly to the house, with no tracks along the sides of the opening. CHPXL, the brand behind EZMax, uses slide-on mounting brackets and strap-and-buckle tensioning to pull the screen tight across the opening. Every attachment point is permanently fixed to the screen itself.
When a storm is forecast, the screen goes up by hand. Because the mesh is lightweight, it is easier to carry and lift into place than heavy storm panels. After the storm, it comes down and goes back into storage until you need it again.
At your free in-home estimate, we measure each opening you want covered and explain how the screen will fit it. CHPXL offers EZMax in four colors, so you can choose one that suits your home.
Where do removable hurricane screens work best?
Removable hurricane screens work best on openings you only want covered during a storm, such as lanais, entry doors, entryways and garage doors. The screen stays in storage the rest of the year, so the opening looks and works the way it always has until a storm is on the way.
Because there are no tracks or housings, removable screens also suit homes where you would rather not add either to the outside of the house. During your estimate, we walk each opening with you and recommend what makes sense for it.
- Lanais and covered patios
- Entry doors and entryways
- Garage doors
- Openings where you don’t want tracks or a housing
Removable screens vs motorized hurricane screens: which is better?
It depends on how you want to use the opening. A motorized hurricane screen like the MagnaTrack Defender lives in a housing above the opening and comes down at the push of a button. A removable EZMax screen goes up by hand when a storm is coming and is stored the rest of the year.
Motorized screens can also give everyday shade, privacy and bug protection, depending on the screen you choose, while a removable screen is there for storms. You can also mix the two, with a motorized screen on the lanai you use every day and removable screens on other openings. We will help you weigh it opening by opening.
What do removable hurricane screens cost?
The cost of removable hurricane screens depends on how many openings you want covered, how large each one is and how the screen attaches to that part of the house. A single entry door is a smaller job than a wide lanai or a double garage door, so the price follows the openings you choose.
Permit requirements can also affect the total. The simplest way to get a real number is a free in-home estimate. We measure every opening, explain your options and give you a detailed written estimate at no cost.
