What are permanent hurricane and security screens?
Permanent hurricane and security screens are screens fixed over a window, door or patio opening for good. Permanently installed on your home or business, this hurricane screen offers security, hurricane protection and energy efficiency. The screens we install are made by TAPCO, which builds them from a high-strength steel mesh and an aluminum frame.
Because the screen stays on the house, there is nothing to store in the garage and nothing to put up when a storm is forecast. It is in place every day, which is what makes it a security screen as well as a hurricane screen.
Advanced Hurricane Protection is a family-owned company based in Stuart. We have served the Treasure Coast for over 20 years, and we install TAPCO screens on homes and businesses.
How do security screens work day to day?
Day to day, a permanent security screen stays closed over the opening while you use the window or door behind it. TAPCO says its screens let fresh air in and keep pests out, so you can open up the house for a breeze and still have the screen in place.
TAPCO makes screens in several forms, so the same kind of protection can cover different openings on the same house. We help you choose the right one for each opening during your estimate.

Permanent screens vs roll-down shutters: which should I choose?
Choose a permanent screen if you want security and airflow every day, with nothing to deploy. Choose a roll-down shutter if you want a solid aluminum barrier that comes down at the push of a button and blocks light completely when it is closed. Both stay on the house all year.
Some openings use both. On one summer kitchen, we paired a hurricane and security screen with a motorized rolling shutter over it. The screen gives airflow and protection day to day, and the shutter closes everything up. During your free in-home estimate, we walk each opening with you and recommend what makes sense.
Where can permanent hurricane screens be installed?
Permanent hurricane screens can go on windows, entry doors, French doors, porches and patios, on homes and on businesses. TAPCO also builds custom screens for arched doors and windows, so unusual openings are not left out. During the estimate, we look at each opening and how you use it before recommending a screen.
TAPCO makes screens for homes, schools and commercial buildings. For businesses, we look at how the space is used, the size of the openings and code requirements, then recommend the right setup.

- Arched doors and windows
- Storefronts, offices and other businesses
What do permanent hurricane and security screens cost?
The cost of permanent hurricane and security screens depends on how many openings you want covered, the size and shape of each one and the type of screen it needs. A porch or patio enclosure is a larger job than a single window, and custom arched shapes add to the work.
Permit requirements can also affect the total. The simplest way to get a real number is a free in-home estimate. We measure every opening, explain your options and give you a detailed written estimate at no cost.
