What are accordion shutters?
Accordion shutters are hurricane shutters made of hinged aluminum blades that fold up neatly at the sides of a window, door or opening. When a storm is coming, you slide them closed along a track and lock them in the middle.
Because they are permanently mounted, they are always ready. There is no seasonal storage and no hauling. Our accordion installs include Bertha HV shutters, built from heavy-duty extruded aluminum with powder-coated finishes that resist rust and fading.
Are accordion shutters better than storm panels?
For most homeowners, yes. Storm panels have to be carried out, lined up and bolted on for every storm, then stored the rest of the year. Accordion shutters stay on the house and close in seconds.
Storm panels can also be heavy and sharp, and they often need a ladder for upper windows. With accordions, storm prep becomes a quick walk around the house. Many homeowners upgrade from storm panels to accordions. On one recent job we replaced old storm panels with Bertha HV accordion shutters.
Where can accordion shutters be installed?
Accordion shutters can be custom made for almost any opening, from a small bathroom window to a wide lanai. Heavy-duty systems are built for wide spans like sliding glass doors, patios and balconies.
We install residential accordion shutters for single-family homes and townhomes, and commercial and multi-unit systems for condos, apartments and businesses. For condo buildings, accordions can keep a consistent look across units while meeting wind-load requirements.

Accordion vs roll-down shutters: which should I choose?
Choose accordions if you want strong, dependable protection at a lower price per opening. Choose roll-down shutters if you want push-button operation or a cleaner look with nothing stacked beside the window.
Both stay on the house year-round and protect against wind and flying debris. Accordions close by hand and fold to the sides. Rolling shutters live in a box above the opening and close by motor. Many homes use accordions on most windows and rolling shutters on large sliders or hard-to-reach spots.
What do accordion shutters cost?
Accordion shutter pricing depends on the number and size of your openings, the height of the windows, the finish color and any hardware upgrades. Wide spans like sliders and lanais take more material than a standard window.
