What are impact windows?
Impact windows are hurricane-rated windows made with laminated glass and reinforced frames. If the glass is struck by flying debris, the inner layer holds the pieces together and helps keep wind and rain out of the house.
Because the protection is built into the window, there is nothing to put up before a storm. Impact windows are installed to Florida Building Code requirements and are a permanent alternative to hurricane shutters on many homes.
Advanced Hurricane Protection installs impact windows for single-family homes, renovations, new construction and multi-story buildings. We are family owned and based in Stuart, and we have served the Treasure Coast for over 20 years.
Do impact windows replace the need for shutters?
Often, yes. Impact windows are designed to withstand wind-borne debris and often eliminate the need for traditional hurricane shutters. Many homeowners choose them because the protection is always in place, so there is nothing to close before a storm.
Some properties still benefit from shutters, depending on exposure, budget or local code. For example, on our high-rise work we sometimes add a motorized rolling shutter over new impact windows for extra protection and privacy. We will tell you honestly what your home needs during your free in-home estimate.
What is turtle-compliant impact glass?
Turtle-compliant glass is tinted or laminated glass with reduced visible light transmittance (VLT). It limits how much indoor light shines toward the beach at night, which helps protect nesting sea turtles.
Many coastal municipalities require windows and doors visible from nesting beaches to meet sea turtle lighting rules. Advanced Hurricane Protection can specify impact-rated windows with turtle-compliant glass that meets local coastal ordinances, keeps your view and still carries Florida Building Code approved impact performance. We work with homeowners, HOAs and contractors to get it right.
Can you install impact windows on a high-rise condo?
Yes. We install impact windows and doors on condominiums, apartments and multi-story buildings. Products are selected based on elevation, wind-load requirements and the building’s structural engineering.
High-rise work takes planning. On one 11th-floor job, there was no lift access, so our technicians installed the new impact windows from a swing stage, then added a motorized rolling shutter. We work closely with associations and contractors throughout the project.
What are the other benefits of impact windows?
Impact windows protect your home on calm days too. The same laminated glass that stands up to storms also makes daily life quieter, cooler and more secure.
- Noise reduction from thicker laminated glass
- UV protection that helps prevent fading of floors and furniture
- Better insulation and potential energy savings
- Forced entry is much more difficult
- Many Florida insurers offer discounts for certified impact windows
- Improved curb appeal and long-term value
What do impact windows cost?
Impact window pricing depends on the number and size of windows, the window style, the glass type and the frame finish. Turtle-compliant glass, custom shapes and high-rise access all affect the price.
Installation details matter too, such as stucco or trim repair and permit requirements. The simplest way to get a real number is a free in-home estimate. We measure every opening, review your options and give you a clear written quote.
